Abstract
Using XLPE block specimens, characteristics of impulse tree inception superposed onto AC voltage were studied. The results are summarized as follows: 1) Impulse tree inception voltage superposed onto AC voltage decreases with the pre-applied AC voltage in both `field aiding´ and `field opposing´ cases; 2) The above characteristics are considered to be caused by the influence of the impulse voltage application itself as well as the space charge effect
