Abstract :
In this paper, we propose to use drainage pattern in order to characterize neotectonic deformation. We test several methods that can be used to examine a drainage system in map view, the watershed basin and its relations to the river draining it. If equilibrium state is given the axial symmetry of the basin should be the flow path of the main river. We therefore explore the link between stream patterns and watershed basins with the concept of medial axis transform (MAT). Additionally the basin shape was explored using GIS. These data supplements basin asymmetry vectors and ancient watersheds derived from filtered DEM. Altogether quantitative analysis of watershed divides and streams are a useful tool to gather information about neotectonic folding and faulting.
