Abstract :
We study the performance of the demand-priority LAN currently under standardization by the IEEE LAN/MAN Standards Committee. The corresponding working group named IEEE 802.12 has already finished the standard of the base protocol which does not yet meet all goals stated for this new high speed LAN. The paper shows that the protocol is highly sensitive to traffic characteristics of the high priority load. In particular, it suffers from poor efficiency in case of small high priority frames
