Abstract
Actuated suspensions have been developed to assist voice coil motor for secondary fine head positioning of hard disk drives (HDD). Most of the existing designs have moderate dynamic performance as compared to moving slider or moving head, even though they can produce enough strokes across data tracks. In this paper, we present two new designs of actuated suspensions that further enhance dynamics to meet the requirements for portable and fast magnetic storage. Also, two new designs of milli-actuators using a piezoelectric plate for driving a suspension with an embedded parallel mechanism is presented.
