Abstract :
A novel compact wide-slot antenna fed with a microstrip-line is proposed. The new design is composed of a p-shaped wide-slot and fed by a simple 50 Ω microstrip transmission line with an overall size of 16 mm × 16 mm. It is intended to be used in a microwave medical imaging applications that covers the ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency band. A wider impedance bandwidth of around 76% (4.9 - 11 GHz) with stable radiation pattern is achieved. The parametric studies showed that the proposed antenna has excellent characteristics, low profile and cost-effective compared to existing UWB antennas.
