Abstract :
In this paper, current-perpendicular-to-plane-giant magnetoresistance (CPP-GMR) heads are fabricated and their read performance is analyzed. The peak asymmetry through dynamic electrical tests (DET) and micromagnetic simulations are studied. The heads have a MR ratio of 3%, physical track width of 80 nm and shield-to-shield gap of 60 nm. Results from micromagnetic simulations show that the peak asymmetry strongly depends on the sensing current. This dependence of the peak asymmetry can be understood by using a simple model that shows the stimulated magnetization state of the free layer with a sensing current of +2.5 mA.
