  • Abstract
Indian beech oil has been converted to methyl ester by the trans-esterification method. The physical, chemical, electrical and thermal ageing parameters have been evaluated in comparison with presently used insulating fluids. The ageing properties of methyl ester of Indian beech oil have been found to be better than the mineral insulating oils, imported Midel 7131 and RTemp fluids. The results are encouraging and the new ester has the potential to replace fast depleting petroleum resources in the field of electrical application
