Abstract
Some of Ameritech´s experience with early integrated services digital network (ISDN) trials and the associated protocol analysis problems are discussed. Some possible test set and systems solutions that address these needs are also discussed. The requirements for a portable test set to support preservice testing and maintenance of ISDN lines are given, and the need to develop some method of getting access to protocol failure information without requiring either the advanced expertise of a maintenance engineer and expensive test equipment or manual assistance in accessing the failing line is addressed
