Abstract :
A strain gauge sensor is described which adjoins with a foam rubber ECG belt via Velcro tabs, for the purpose of monitoring the level of attachment tension. Size, weight, and stability considerations are important factors governing instrument design. The mechanical response is uniform in frequency (fn=401 Hz, ζ=0.08) and linear (±4%; r=0.998), with a measured sensitivity of 0.44-mV/V/gm tension. The measurement of several fixed belt tension levels, within a range typically used by medical personnel, is described. Preliminary results suggest that measurement of belt attachment tension can be easily obtained and has potential applications to clinical medicine
