Abstract
Methods to minimize the complexity caused by the number of different switch suppliers that provide a variety of nonstandard integrated services digital network (ISDN) subscription parameters are proposed. A methodology is presented for using database concepts to represent customer subscription data and the messages that pass between a memory administration operations system and the ISDN switch to update service parameters. It is demonstrated how certain new ISDN parameters will be integrated with the current plain old telephone service (POTS) database model proposed by Bellcore. Other ISDN parameters are presented as part of an ongoing effort to promote a generic approach to Bell operating company (BOC) operations. This generic approach will allow the BOCs to deploy a variety of new ISDN services quickly, using equipment from multiple suppliers, without incurring the operations expense associated with supplier-specific interface applications
