  • Abstract
A generic distributed system architecture for process monitoring, fault diagnosis and assisted maintenance is proposed. The diagnosis system aims at identifying failures as and when they happen in normal operation. It integrates different fault detection and isolation techniques such as model based methods, heuristic and rule based reasoning. The actual developing supervisory intelligent systems has to: detect and interpret the abnormal conditions that will cause an incident; determine what kind of action should be taken and resume the process to normal conditions; find reasons for equipment malfunctions and schedule a maintenance plan.
