Abstract
The multicast broadcast service (MBS) is introduced in WiMAX for the demand of real time multimedia services in mobile networks. To enhance the performance of MBS, an MBS zone is constructed in IEEE802.16e system. An MBS zone consists of several adjacent BSs. In this paper, a novel scheme is proposed for energy efficiency of MBS zone in WiMAX system. The MBS channel will be terminated for the BS in which there is no terminal. The channel will be recovered if any user comes into the BS. We analyze the solution using probability theory and queuing theory. Besides, we also design an analytical model to evaluate the performance of this method. The results show that the proposed mechanism: 1) is efficient in energy saving, 2) has a better performance in a larger MBS zone.
