Abstract
Mitsubishi Electric has developed a FMS to process elevator´s sheet metals for The Mitsubishi Elevator Products Corporation (MEP). The concept of this system is correspondence between various customer needs and the production stage quickly. This system has reduced the total production lead time and manufacturing cost: This FMS has the following features. 1. Production schedules and various customers´ specifications are sent from the host computer (It controls total production schedule in the factory.) to the line-controller computer, then sheet metals can be processed timely to prepare all of one elevator´s parts before assembling. 2. NC programs for the machines are generated based on customer´s order and managed by a client/server CAD/CAM system. 3. The line-controller receives the NC programs from the CAD/CAM system and controls NC machines to process sheet metals automatically
