  • Abstract
    Many production systems transform simultaneously continuous products such as raw material, liquids, powders, and discrete products such as bottles, boxes, packing, pieces. Very often, designers use simulation to verify the effects of the control laws. The simulators have to be based upon very accurate modelling, because saving some percent of production means saving a lot of money, due to the quantities involved. Moreover, transient modes and faults have important effects. Until now, these systems were approximated by discrete systems and corresponding simulators. Discrete transformation of the continuous items induces errors or large computation time. There are several new models that use the Petri Net formalism. Their characteristics are investigated here. To compare them, the part of a bottling line is modelled with each one of them. The same input sequence is applied to each one. The behaviours are compared
