Abstract :
Ttheoretical investigation of two-dimensional magnetophotonic crystals (MPCs) which are formed from magnetoactive materials periodically arranged in two dimensions is presented. Alteration of the band structure is studied for Faraday geometry. In order to take into account the influence of magnetic activity, generalization of the well known plane wave method is developed. Strong sensitivity of dispersion for electromagnetic modes near band edges and Γ point of Brillouin zone appears regardless of the weak character of magnetooptical activity. For the real finite sized structures such band structure alteration results in strong deflection of the light propagation direction.
