  • Abstract
A liquid bath model for simulating the liquid slag and metal behavior of multi-fluid problems defined in 3D cylindrical geometries is presented, which is developed based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach. As to the issue of the multi-phase flow, a volume of fluid (VOF) model and standard k-epsi turbulent model are employed in this model. The volume fraction distribution of liquid slag and metal is obtained from the this model. The numerical predictions clearly reveal that the ldquosplashrdquo phenomenon in Hismelt process is a reality, which will increase the heat transfer efficiency from post-combustion region to liquid bath, and the presence of a slag layer has important influences on the bath fluid dynamics and metal quality, because it can keep metal away from oxidizing gas, thus avoid oxidized.
