    Summary form only given. Recently developed tunable solid-state UV laser material Ce/sup 3+/:LiLuF/sub 4/ (Ce:LLF) with tunability of about 305-340 nm is attractive for a variety of applications including environmental remote sensing and combustion diagnostics.
