Abstract
Summary form only given. We show the presence of the excited state absorption (ESA) at 1.06 /spl mu/m in the Nd-doped glasses and we quantify the ESA cross section for silicate (LG680) and phosphate (LG760) glasses. During the pumping, the upconversion process and the ESA at the pump wavelength populate the 4G excited states.
