  • Abstract
High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) has been investigated as a new technique for treating tumors in clinical applications. Detecting HIFU induced lesions in medical imaging is an important method to monitor and guide the HIFU therapies. In this paper, we propose an ultrasound image enhancement method for HIFU lesion detection and measurement based on the combination of the GenLik method and the local wiener filtering technique in the wavelet packet transform domain. Experimental results of simulated image and HIFU monitor image show that this method can successfully preserve and enhance lesions for auto segmentation and measurement, while reducing the speckle noise in ultrasound images.
