Abstract :
A new nonlinear companding transform (NCT) scheme is proposed to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of transmitted signals in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Its companding transfer curve is based on the specified hyperbolic tangent function. By compressing large amplitude signals while enhancing small ones simultaneously, this scheme can obtain an effective reduction of PAPR with a low bit error rate (BER) degradation. A theoretical performance analysis regarding the achievable PAPR reduction and transform gain are provided. Simulations demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed scheme.
