Abstract :
Companding transform technique is commonly used to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. This paper proposes a novel nonlinear companding transform method. By transforming original signals into a specified distribution while remaining a constant average output power level, this method can achieve significant PAPR reduction as well as an improved BER performance. Besides, by properly adjusting the transform parameters, this method can offer a flexible tradeoff between PAPR reduction and BER performance to fulfill various design requirements. Both the numerical analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can obtain better overall performance than the referred schemes.
