Abstract :
Summary form only given. Frequency doubling of CO/sub 2/ lasers is an efficient means of producing narrow-band coherent output in the mid-infrared spectral region. Pumping with emission lines around 9 /spl mu/m is of particular interest to achieve second harmonic generation (SHG) of wavelengths in the 3 to 5 /spl mu/m region of high atmospheric transmission. AgGaInSe/sub 2/ is presented as a material for such applications due to its large nonlinear coefficient and wide transparency range.
