Abstract :
For commercial use, the sensing system needs to discriminate between valid swing and practice swing. So, in this paper, a new sensing system for extraction of features of a golf ball and club is proposed by using a perpendicular planar sensor. A sensor extracts raw data, consisting of binary bit, from the ball and club movements and then passes this data to a PC. The raw data contains information on shadow variations under high-speed scanning. The golf ball and club shadow blobs are identified and basic features, such as the velocity, the height, and the initial movement direction are calculated directly. Experimental results show that the proposed system has fault tolerant features for commercial purposes and practical in golf simulation system.
