Abstract
An embedded systems computer can be designed to allow the user to develop user code without affecting the embedded operating system. The computer contains a ROM-resident complete version of VxWorks (including Tornado capability), and a method for installing relocatable user programs into ROM, from which they will execute. The operating system and user programs are independently loadable and upgradable. This loading capability executes outside of VxWorks´ influence. Field upgrades of operating systems can be loaded without affecting user program functionality
