Abstract :
Summary form only given. Gain control of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) is one of the most important technical problems in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks where the number of wavelength channels changes dynamically. This is because the undesirable variation and the transient response of the amplifier gain are caused by the change of the input power. To cope with this problem, the all-optical gain-clamped amplifier (GCA) was proposed and demonstrated experimentally.
