Abstract :
Due to the demand of modern industry metrology, it is needed to develop a dynamic probing way with coordinate measuring machine (CMMs) to enhance efficiency. However, high measurement accuracy is conflicting with the wish for higher operating speed, shorter measuring cycle time and shop floor conditions. This paper presents dynamic errors characteristics of touch trigger probes. By varying six parameters (approach speed, pre-load spring force, stylus length, approach distance, probe orientation, number of points) of touch trigger probe which influence dynamic measurement most and measuring the reference sphere to get the details on dynamic measurement errors for these parameters. The experimental design is depicted in this paper and all results obtained from the systematic experiments. From the results it can get some useful information on the most crucial factors of dynamic errors and recommendations enabling fast probing without serious degradation measurement accuracy.
