Abstract :
In the competitive electricity markets, the system operator is the key element to make the transmission system secure taking real time corrective actions for reliable operation. Under extreme emergency cases, the system operator may take option of load curtailment for transmission loading relief. This paper proposes a method to compute optimal load curtailment using optimal power flow (OPF) based approach. The load curtailment has been obtained with both DC as well as AC methods and the results have been compared. The impact of FACTS devices to alleviate overloads has also been determined. The results have been obtained for IEEE RTS-24 bus test system without and with FACTS devices. The proposed approach for optimal load curtailment may help the SO for secure operation of transmission system.
