Abstract :
This paper addresses the improvement of phase noise and phase accuracy in coupled rings of LC oscillators. A new method incorporating coupling both with capacitors and transistors is presented. A number of 4 GHz, coupled, three stage LC oscillator rings were fabricated in 0.18 μm CMOS. The measured rms jitter and phase noise of a capacitively averaged ring are 1.183 ps, and -133.67 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset, respectively.
