Abstract :
Summary form only given. We report ultrafast polarization bistable switching with a 7-ps switching time in a VCSEL by optical trigger pulses through the pitchfork bifurcation bistability. This is the fastest bistable switching to our knowledge. We also report the simulation of the optical demultiplexing with a signal-bitwidth conversion function using polarization bistable laser diodes (BLD)s. A VCSEL that consists of InGaAs active layers was used in the experiment.
