Abstract
An empirical modeling for dual fuel engine operated on producer gas and pilot diesel fuel has been presented to predict the performance of dual fuel engine. Formulation is described using mass and energy balance, and empirical relations obtained from experiments from literature. The effect of variation in engine load and suction pressure head on the specific fuel consumption, diesel replacement and percentage excess air has been studied. Model predicts the best diesel replacement in the engine load range 50-80%. The decreasing suction pressure head at inlet manifold tend to improve the diesel replacement. The engine system performance in dual fuel mode is observed to be robust, although diesel replacement is found to be sensitive to any fluctuation.
