Abstract :
Summary form only given. We have presented results that show the promise of intracavity spectral shaping to avoid gain-narrowing effects in modelocked semiconductor diode lasers and have produced optical pulses of 330 fs duration. High average powers were obtained by employing novel inverse bow-tie semiconductor optical amplifiers and have generated average mode-locked output powers of 0.4 W.
