  • Abstract
A detailed harmonic study and the harmonic impact on HVDC bulk-power transmission system is crucial to investigate its effect on performance of electrical equipment and components of HVDC system. In the outset of bulk power transmitting HVDC systems linked to low short circuit level bus-bars, CCC-HVDC is the recent technology. Hybrid Capacitor Commutated Converter - HC3 configuration is a special case of the Capacitor Commutated Converter in HVDC system, when one of the series-commutation capacitor banks is out of service due to some contingency. However, its behavior as a harmonic source is still little explored, which is the research point of this paper. This paper presents comprehensive modeling and characteristic/non-characteristic harmonic analysis of the first CIGRE HVDC benchmark test system with different converter configurations such as LCC, CCC, CCC-Up, CCC-Low, HC3-Up and HC3-Low using PSCAD/EMTDC as a simulation tool.
