Abstract :
The structure of a packet error resilient fine granularity scalable MPEG-4 decoder is proposed. The performance of the proposed decoder is tested and tests are repeated with prioritization of the most important parts of the bitstream enabled to analyze the impact of packet error resilience and prioritization during video transmission. Simulation results show that improvement in visual quality can be achieved when using the proposed decoder and prioritization. However, the effect achieved using the proposed error resilient decoder is greater than the improvement achieved by using only prioritization.
