Abstract :
Wireless sensor networks(WSNs) has been a hot area of research recently. Wireless sensor networks are usually placed in complex and dangerous environment without anybody guarding, so the exchange of battery is inconvenient. Therefore, energy-saving is always the key problem in the research of WSNs in order to prolong the lifetime of networks. This paper puts forward an AODV routing protocol, AODV-ECA, based on cellular automata (CA) mechanism. AODV-ECA can reduce and balance energy consumption to prolong the network lifetime by means of switching nodes´ states between sleeping and working. Finally, AODV-ECA is simulated and evaluated to other energy-efficient routing protocols by NS2 simulator.
