Abstract
An adaptive segment output stage with dual-mode control in DC-DC converter is proposed. According to the load current, optimizing width of the power MOSFET facilitates enhancing conversion efficiency. Specially, in order to improve the efficiency at very light load conditions, PSM controller is included in system which can switch dynamically based on the load current. A dual-mode buck DC-DC converter with the adaptive segment output stage is designed and simulated in a 0.13μm standard CMOS process. The simulation results show that the maximum efficiency improvement of the converter with adaptive segment reaches 5.3% at 15mA compared to converter without segment.
