Abstract :
Summary form only given. We report laser texturing on NiP/Al magnetic disks using an elliptical-shaped Gaussian beam. The elliptical-shaped laser beam creates elongated streamline bumps on the disk surface. These elliptical-shaped bumps have a smooth profile along their elongated axis. An improved tribological performance has been observed for the textured landing zone using an elliptical-shaped laser beam.
