Abstract :
Recently, there has been an increasing interest in Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET), which establishes an autonomous network temporarily through direct communications between mobile terminals without using any fixed infrastructure. There have been studies on using MANET in times of a disaster, or on connecting MANET to the Internet. This paper considers a case where a LAN has lost a connection to the Internet as a result of a wide-area network failure caused by a disaster, etc., and studies the functions needed for re-connecting the isolated LAN to the Internet. Specifically, it proposes to install access points (APs) with MANET connection capability both at the isolated LAN and an interconnection point of the Internet, and to use MAC address routing, MAC/IP address conversion, and inter-flow control. The effectiveness of this proposal has been evaluated by implementing MAC address routing, MAC/IP address conversion, and HTTP communications on the MANET emulator.
