Scintillation properties of Lu/sub 0.4/Gd/sub 1.6/SiO/sub 5/:Ce (LGSO) crystal

Abstract :
We developed Lu0.4Gd1.6SiO5 (LGSO) crystal as a new scintillator for medical applications. Physical and scintillation properties of LGSO crystals with various Ce concentrations and annealing effect were studied. Its absorption coefficient at 511 keV gamma ray is 0.70 cm-1 which is the same as GSO. Annealed crystal with 2.0 mol% of Ce shows better scintillation properties such as high light output (twice that of GSO), good energy resolution (more than GSO), fast decay constant (65ns) and fast rise part (similar to LSO)
