Abstract :
Summary form only given. This paper reports the results of a comprehensive set of simulations of a bistatic sodium (Na) guide-star adaptive optics system operating on a 3.5 meter telescope. We combine a full density-matrix (Bloch) equation analysis of the atomic sodium, with a full wave-optics propagation of the beacon laser to, and backscattered radiation from, the mesosphere, through a turbulent atmosphere, with a full adaptive-optics simulation of the wavefront sensor, deformable mirror reconstructor, and control algorithms.
