Abstract :
Summary form only given. The laser beam can heat a surface with relatively shallow heat penetration. The intensity can be varied to cause reactions from gentle heating to explosive boiling. There are industrial opportunities for the use of lasers in surface treatment. This paper describes the range of processes now available and illustrates the possibilities for in-process monitoring.
