Abstract
Summary form only given. In order to optimize the design of future Nd:glass laser drivers for inertial confinement fusion experiments, accurate computer models predicting all aspects of laser performance are needed. It will be especially important to have accurate predictions for the performance of the amplifiers, because they will be a major cost item. Accordingly we have developed computer models for various aspects of flashlamp-pumped, Nd:glass amplifiers. In this paper, we will discuss our efforts, both experimental and theoretical, in the area of pump-induced wavefront distortions.
