Abstract
The paper treats a heat flux estimation problem for a system that models the temperature evolution in a thermoelastic rod, which is allowed to come into contact with a rigid obstacle. The dynamics of the process are described by a nonlinear nonlocal PDE of parabolic type. Sensor configurations, which can provide measurements guaranteeing the problem to be uniquely solvable, and relevant identification and adaptive estimation procedures are discussed.
