Abstract
Summary form only given. In conclusion, we have developed a large-mode-area Er-doped fiber amplifier and demonstrated a substantial improvement in reducing fiber nonlinearities and ASE-induced suppression of gain to increase the extracted pulse energies from a fiber-based CPA system. Using this technique we have produced pulses with energies >20 /spl mu/J.
