Abstract
The transient behavior of the Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) protocol is analyzed, under the assumption of a heavy-load for a single asynchronous priority level. The analysis leads to a simple characterization of the asynchronous transmission times for the different stations. From this characterization, an algorithm to calculate the token rotations and times at which different stations in the ring begin to transmit asynchronous data is derived. Simulation results show that the behavior predicted by the algorithm is approached under heavy Poisson asynchronous load in the network
