Abstract :
A fiber distributed data interface (FDDI) media access control (MAC) protocol is analyzed using a simulation model. The MAC protocol simulated conforms to the emerging ANSI/ISO standard. The parameters of the protocol have strong connections to the ring performance (ring utilization and frame delay time). The simulation model is then used to obtain the relationship between the FDDI parameters and performance, focusing in tuning the parameters to maximize the performance of a FDDI network with single- and multi-priority asynchronous traffic. The simulation results are presented
