  • Abstract
Summary form only given. In this paper, we show that achiral but anisotropic surfaces exhibit optical activity in second-harmonic generation. We also show that these nonlinear optical activity effects are a manifestation of extramaterial chirality, i.e., optical activity that occurs due to lack of mirror planes in the experimental setup and not due to asymmetry of the material system.
