Abstract :
The authors describe a program in Alabama which has led to a secondary school curriculum for training students to use high-performance computational methods in mathematics and science. The training material developed has been offered as a professional development course for Alabama teachers in computer science, physics, chemistry or mathematics. The result of inservice training for these teachers has been the incorporation of a course into their curricula which teaches the fundamentals of high performance computing and which allows the students to develop science or mathematics projects which utilize Alabama´s Cray X-MP for their solutions. This program has been implemented in schools throughout Alabama during the past two years and is now being used by teachers and students across the nation
