Abstract

Summary form only given. The electronics information displays industry has evolved into a new paradigm for display components. The liquid crystal display technology is now the winner of the flat-panel race with sales comparable to CRTs. New developments are occurring in plasma, electroluminescence, and light-emitting diodes suitable for niche markets. All the display technologies are put into perspective along with important performance characteristics. Flat-panel liquid-crystal displays are enabling many new consumer products.
