Abstract :
The LCD (liquid crystal display) pilot display system developed to facilitate ongoing research at Mississippi State University´s Raspet Flight Center is described. Pilots are being asked to fly the aircraft for a period of time without varying certain parameters such as indicated airspeed, altitude, angle of attack, or side slip to allow performance data to be collected. The LCD system is being used to evaluate the performance of a twin-engined aircraft involved in a proprietary research project. Comparisons of the pilot´s ability to hold flight parameter tolerances with and without the system in use are presented. It is concluded that this system provides a means of displaying highly accurate flight parameter data which allows pilots to follow a flight plan to very close tolerances for flight testing operations
