Abstract
The performance of a Reed-Solomon hybrid automatic repeat request (RS/HARQ) error control system over slowly fading channels with feedback is examined. The RS/HARQ system uses erasure decoding in a hybrid-ARQ protocol to provide excellent reliability performance at the expense of a negligible-to-moderate reduction in throughput. This protocol allows for the variation of the erasure threshold and the effective diameter of the decoding operations, providing a powerful, flexible error control system for mobile radio applications
